Physiotherapist Marnie Tocheniuk

Marnie graduated from the University of British Columbia in 1995 with a Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy. She has worked in private practice in the Fraser Valley, the Sea to Sky Corridor, and various locations in between. During her time in the Fraser Valley, Marnie attained a Diploma in Advanced Manual and Manipulative Therapy. Her educational pursuits were further diversified by completing a certification in Acupuncture from the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute in 2005 (CAFCI) and becoming a licensed Intramuscular Stimulation Practitioner the following year (CGIMS). In 2009, Marnie began her training in visceral manipulation and pelvic floor physiotherapy. She has since taken multiple post-graduate courses in men’s and women’s health and training in the use of real time ultrasound imaging.

Born and raised in the lower mainland, Marnie has played in the great outdoors throughout her life – on a mountain bike and road bike, in hiking boots, climbing shoes, cross country skis, and runners. She was an avid soccer player and had the privilege to be on the Simon Fraser University women’s soccer team the year it was inaugurated as a varsity sport. To balance work with play, Marnie has taken time off work over the years to participate in a number of hiking expeditions and bike tours, both on this continent and abroad. Her longest hike was the Pacific Crest Trail from the border of Mexico to the border of Canada and her bike touring stints included a one year sabbatical to travel the globe on her bike. During her time on the SFU Soccer Team Marnie was no stranger to physiotherapy and she was drawn to the profession both as an advocate of the rehabilitation process as well as a desire to help others towards the goal of healing and independence.

Marnie takes a special interest in pelvic floor physiotherapy including the rehabilitation of the pelvic floor postpartum and post prostate surgery and the issues that arise in both men and women when the health of the pelvic floor is compromised. She has been involved in orthopaedic and sports injury rehabilitation for many years and continues to enjoy treating this population of clients. Marnie incorporates a hands-on approach to her practice and always sees clients on a 1:1 basis. She draws from her diversified background of training to provide optimum personalized treatment for her clients. Marnie continues to enjoy her journey in the physiotherapy profession and when she is not at the office she can be found playing in the great outdoors as well as keeping busy with her twin son and daughter.
